Our Commercial Restoration Services
Architectural Wood Restoration
We restore wall paneling and Wainscot, doors, mantels, and moldings using traditional joinery, finish-matching, and hand carving. Whether it's a damaged courtroom wall or an aged church column, we bring every element back to life, restoring it invisibly.
Public Works Preservation Projects
Olek restores public works projects hand in hand with Conservators and Owner’s Representatives or Preservation Architects collaboratively, so the client can see and determine the scope of work down to the most minute detail, before changes are done.. We create Shop Drawings showing every repair, every Dutchman inlay for Approval by Conservators of our clients overseeing our work, prior to doing the work, as required. Our work is conducted timely and reliably, according to an agreed schedule. We have sufficient manpower in-house to handle the largest of projects expeditiously. With 20,000 sq. ft. of owned shop space (without mortgage), we can usually accommodate large projects without having to hire costly additional space. We leave every object imperceptibly repaired, so it looks like it has always been kept in good condition, and maintains its historic patina.
We can finish or create new millwork so it is indistinguishable from old, even when the new and old are adjacent, even part of the same wall. We do adhere to Preservation Guidelines of the Secretary of the Interior. Epoxy fillers are not a part of our work. Since the 1980s, we have been staunch advocates that Epoxy fillers hasten the deterioration of exterior woodwork, and are inappropriate for use in preservation. Time has borne out our convictions — Dutchman inlays are integral to our restoration and preservation work. Skillfully executed Dutchman inlays, using salvaged old growth lumber can last many generations, avoiding the need for frequent preservation attempts. Do it right the first time, and avoid the old quip, “the most rotten wood [on a preservation project] is what was most recently installed.” We have extensive resources for matching old wide flitches and exotic veneers that may be banned by sustainable harvesting regulations or embargoes. Our in-house inventory consists of 10,000 sq. ft. of veneers acquired over past decades.
Church Pew and Bench Repair
Our team repairs, rebuilds, and refinishes fixed seating used in churches, temples, and chapels. We preserve original designs while rebuilding joinery as needed for durability. We maintain the integrity of the designs using original joinery. We don’t employ quick fixes using nails or screws, ever.
Conference Tables, Desks & Fixtures
We offer refinishing and structural repair for high-use commercial wood and upholstered furniture, including executive desks, paneling, library reading tables, chairs and sofas, and Board Room or Conference Tables.
Courtroom Restoration & Millwork Repair
From railing systems and judge’s benches to original millwork, we handle civic restorations with care and compliance. We match any old details, including complicated built-up moldings with Dentils, and carved details. Our sculptural abilities include carving in the “hand” of the original sculptor, so reproductions are undetectable to the expert eye. These details are usually impossible to recreate by even the latest of 3D CNC carving technologies.
